Who Are We?
Advanced Materials Science has been serving clients across South Africa with materials testing, environmental testing, quality control and metallurgical consultation for over 25 years and counting.
As one of only a handful of commercial testing laboratories available in the country, we are in a unique position to provide much-needed solutions to businesses that do not preside over testing facilities at their own premises.

Alleviating these problems was the vision of Max Ruppert, the founder and lead scientist of AMS.
An expert in metallurgical science- and engineering, Max has worked in laboratories his entire life and has personally overseen hundreds of materials-related investigations. He also understands what is needed for a laboratory to run smoothly and efficiently.
Being in the industry for so long, he soon noticed that there was a gap in the market for a commercial, fully independent laboratory catering to smaller businesses with no other alternative at their disposal.
Wanting to fill that need, he decided to start his own laboratory, and has never looked back since.
Since testing requirements can vary greatly, Max has always intended AMS to have a custom-tailored approach to testing.
He was determined to provide a solution for both non-routine testing (those unusual times when testing may be needed suddenly, due to unforeseen circumstances) as well as regular tests that are needed on an on-going basis.
This allows AMS to fulfill a wide range of testing needs in a cost-effective manner, since we take the unique circumstances of every request into consideration.
Any laboratory that wants to be taken seriously needs to comply with the rules and guidelines as set out by regulatory bodies like SANAS.
The steps that AMS has taken to meet these requirements include the following examples:
- Our machines are calibrated regularly and on a fixed schedule;
- We practice effective record-keeping via a comprehensive documentation system;
- We ensure that tests are always performed according to international testing standards and procedures.
We are impartial at AMS - being independent means that we have zero conflict of interest, and always act with integrity when it comes to test results - simply put, we don't have any incentive to be biased, or report anything other than the absolute truth to our customers.
Last but not least, we automatically treat every test report as extremely confidential - under no circumstances do we disclose results to any third parties, unless expressly given permission to do so by the client. This is something that we stake our reputation on, and for this reason, it isn't a promise we make lightly.
